BW System

The BW System is our most economical way to provide reinforcing to unreinforced masonry walls.  This system is designed to provide out-of-plane and in-plane anchorage and resists seismic or wind forces.  The stud walls may be constructed on the ground and raised into place.   As with all of our systems, the BW system utilizes cellular plastic to provide a connection between the existing wall and the constructed wall sheathing.

The in-plane shear loads are resisted by plywood sheathing.  If there is inadequate room to construct these walls as a single component, then the TR or STR system is a recommended alternative.

Key Benefits

  • Excellent structural capacity for out- of-plane and in-plane forces.

  • May be used in shearwall applications.

  • BW walls provide an additional R14 insulation value

  • Provides a wall cavity for future electrical wiring, piping, or other mechanical systems.

  • The foam product is code compliant and does not contain CFC blowing agents or other ODS.

  • Excellent flame spread and smoke density properties.  The IC type foam, tested to ASTM E-108 has a flame spread rating of less than 75 and a smoke density rating of less than 350.

  • Walls are designed to have a deflection limitation of 1/600 of the span or to other deflection limits deemed appropriate by the engineer of record.
